Live in Ikea

Remember when houses were built on strong foundation and including architectural elements of the time period in which they were constructed.  As the demand for homes grow cookie cutter neighborhoods sprung up all over the U.S.  Now you don't even need to buy a home from a real estate agent.  You can purchase it from Ikea and build it yourself (appliances included).

  2. This is a very interesting article. I have heard of people who have bought a log cabin that was built and labeled for reassembly before delivered but, the purchaser of the log cabin still had to deal with other items involved with building a house like the foundation. I have personally never had the pleasure of assembling my own furniture but, I have built houses. I hope the instructions for the assembly of this house are better than most instruction for self assembled items. Building a house is usually not as easy as place slot A into slot B because, you also have to deal with water, drainage, and electricity. It will also be fascinating to see how local building officials handle the applications for permits to build these kinds of houses. With all of that said if IKEA can handle all of these kinds of issues this will be a great opportunity for lower income purchasers who are willing to take on the project of building a house.

  3. You bring up some great points Belinda! I didn't think about things like utilities. I think it's a great idea overall though! especially for those looking for a small, affordable alternative to an apartment or condominium. Ikea does a great job with their efficiency. being able to fit everything into the house the way they did and still have a decent sized bedroom makes a huge difference. I'm definitely interested to see how these take off.

  4. This is a great idea for those people with low incomes. It probably would be more for a newly wed couple or, as Justin stated, an alternative to an apartment for anyone. It is only 745 sq. ft. which is slightly bigger than the last 2 bedroom apartment I was in. At $86,500, it is definitely an eye catcher. Although I do have a friend who just purchased his first house for about the same price. It is a two-story house with 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths up in Queen Creek. With some of those cookie cutter houses being foreclosed on, the prices on those houses are taking quite a dip in price. I'm sure he was one of the lucky ones to get a house at that price. Not even one he had to fix up.
